Spring Semester Slump

Winter Break has finally come to a close and we’re ecstatic to be back on the plains with all of our favorite people! Weekends in Auburn are truly unmatched— time spent with friends, getting some much-needed rest, and enjoying all of the natural beauty Auburn has to offer. But something feels like it’s missing. Now that football season has come to a close…what should we do with our Saturdays?

Navigating Spring Semester can be a challenge at times, and the lack of football games to fill your weekends can feel abnormal at first. However, the spring semester is a wonderful time to try new things, explore all the resources Auburn has to offer, and be intentional within your friendships while also making new ones. What can sometimes feel like a lonely or isolating season can become a period of growth and exploration with the right mindset and ideas! To help you get through your “Spring Semester Slump,” here are just a few things you can do in place of watching the Auburn Tigers kick off in Jordan-Hare!

1.) Take a Trip Somewhere New!

Auburn will always be our happy place, but sometimes it can be beneficial to take a few days away and explore a new destination! Grab your friends, your suitcase, a good road trip playlist, and hop in the car.

A Vampire Diaries Fan? Drive over to Covington, GA for a weekend full of Mystic Falls fun! From visiting the Mystic Grill to the Lockwood Mansion, this charming town, bustling with southern hospitality, is just a little over two hours away!

Missing the summer sun? In just a little under four hours you can get to Seaside, FL, the perfect getaway for beach lovers. From window shopping to trying delicious and unique food truck creations, this coastal town has something for everyone. If you’re wanting to stay within the great state of Alabama, Orange Beach is a perfect alternative with shopping at the Wharf, walking trails, and of course, the beach.

2.) Take a Hike with Friends!

Auburn is full of natural beauty, and what better way to enjoy it than getting some fresh air and exploring with friends? We have several riveting hiking trails that are both equally challenging and enjoyable. The cooler temperatures can be discouraging, but moving your body doesn’t have to feel like a chore- especially when you do it in a beautiful setting. Some of our favorite trails include Chewacla State Park, Kreher Preserve & Nature Center, and the Smith Mountain Tower Trail. Make sure to wear good shoes, bring plenty of water and snacks, and charge your phone to capture the beautiful sights.

3.) Try a New Restaurant with your Sorority Family!

Auburn is no stranger to delicious meals, with a diverse restaurant scene full of carefully crafted and curated dishes. From locally owned eateries to family favorite chains, Auburn has a place for everyone to get a meal they’ll love. Grab your big and your little and head to one of our favorite spots to enjoy a delicious bite!

Pasta & Pizza Lover? Make your way to the Auburn Hotel and visit their in-house restaurant, Ariccia Cucina, for a classic Italian meal. From spaghetti and meatballs to pepperoni pizza, this lively atmosphere is the perfect place to catch up with your sorority family.

Craving Mexican food, but also some barbecue? Bow & Arrow is the place for you! Order some sliced brisket or a crispy burrito (or both) while soaking up the authentic feel of the South Texas themed smokehouse.

Need something quick, but still delicious? Irritable Bao is the perfect destination for a fast yet quality meal. With a revolving menu and a family-focused environment, it’s the perfect stop for your sorority family to bond over delicious food.

No matter what you do- whether it’s from the list above or not- remember to have fun! Even though this season can feel unfamiliar at times, remember to delight in every moment!

xoxo,

Auburn Panhellenic
