Women’s History Month: Founders

Happy Women’s History Month! We are so excited to celebrate this month and highlight the Panhellenic women who are doing wonderful things around campus. At this time, we want to celebrate and honor the women who founded the incredible sororities we have at Auburn University. Without them, we would not have the amazing chapters that we do today! 

Alpha Chi Omega- Anna Allen, Olive Burnett, Bertha Deniston, Amy Dubois, Nellie Gamble, Bessie Grooms, and Estelle Leonard in 1885.   

Alpha Delta Pi- Eugenia Tucker Fitzgerald, Elizabeth Williams Mitchell, Sophronia Woodruff Dews, Octavia Andrew Rush, Mary Evans Glass, and Ella Pierce Turner in 1851.  

Alpha Gamma Delta- Georgia Dickover, sisters Marguerite and Estelle Shepard, Jennie Clara Titus, Ethel Brown, Grace Mosher, Edith MacConnell, Mary Louise Snider, Georgia Otis Chipman, Emily Butterfield, and Flora Knight Mayer in 1904

Delta Delta Delta- Sarah Ida Shaw, Eleanor Dorcas Pond, Florence Stewart, and Isabel Morgan Breed in 1888.  

Delta Gamma- Anna Boyd Ellington, Eva Webb Dodd, and Mary Comfort Leonard in 1873.  

Delta Zeta- Alfa Lloyd, Mary Collins, Anna Keen, Julia Bishop, Mabelle Minton, and Anne Simmons in 1902. 

Gamma Phi Beta- Helen M. Dodge, Frances E. Haven, E. Adeline Curtis and Mary A. Bingham in 1874.  

Kappa Alpha Theta- Bettie Locke Hamilton, Alice Allen Brant, Bettie Tipton Lindsey, and Hannah Fitch Shaw in 1870.
