Creating Routines and Sticking to Them
Winter break is over, and it is time to start getting into the swing of things! One of the most beneficial things you can do is create a routine to stick with this semester. Our bodies thrive off routines and knowing what is coming next, so it is essential to find ways that make you work best in all situations!
Navigating the spring semester can be hard at times, and having a few consistent habits can help you tame your stress during these busy weeks. One thing to remember is that routines aren’t perfect. They take time and patience to get yourself into the habit of doing stuff each day. Don’t give yourself another thing to stress out over. This is supposed to help relieve it!
Start small and be realistic.
Your life is not going to be perfect the first day you make your bed, go for a walk, and deep-clean your room. A routine is something you grow into. Start with 2-3 simple habits that might be small but will also just help you feel better about yourself. These could be making your bed, journaling for 5 minutes, and maybe sitting outside for 10 minutes. Consistency will always be more important than intensity. Ease into a routine if you’re just starting and let yourself grow from there!
Build your routine around your schedule.
As college women, we have so many different events and assignments throughout the week. It is important to give yourself time to do everything you’re involved in, but also take time for yourself. Use a planner or a digital calendar to schedule your days out. If you’re gonna go on a 20-minute walk, find a time where you aren’t rushed so you can make the most of it, and not just let it feel like a checked-off box.
Give yourself grace when things don’t work out.
It is not the end of the world if your routine gets thrown off a bit. Let yourself get that extra sleep if your body needs it, rather than working out. We need energy to go about our day, so let yourself get as much as you can! If something doesn't work out, try resetting. Tell yourself it’s okay and go on about your day. Sometimes we all need a little time expansion.
As the semester kicks up in business, remember that your routine should support you, not stress you out. Finding a rhythm takes time, and it’s okay if it looks different every day. The goal isn’t perfect, but progress and balance.
By starting small and giving yourself grace, you’re setting yourself up for a healthier and great semester!
