Spring Break Safety Tips

Spring Break is finally almost here, and we couldn’t be more ready for a week away to relax and spend time with friends. Although this week can be full of fun experiences and unforgettable memories, it’s important to remember that safety should be your #1 priority. Here are just a few things to prepare ahead of time to ensure you get the most out of your experience.

1.) Always stay with a group!

Although it may seem like common sense, this one is so important to remember and enforce! Make sure you are always with at least one other person from your travel group at all times. Whether it’s for something big like a run to the store or something small like a bathroom break, you should always follow the buddy system, even if you’re vacationing in an area you feel familiar with.

2.) Plan Ahead!

Nothing’s worse than running into unexpected troubles or pressing circumstances, so it’s always important to plan for the unexpected. If you’re road-tripping for any part of your trip, make sure to plan your fuel stops and restroom breaks ahead of time. It may seem like overkill, but nothing is worse than being low on gas or needing to use the restroom during a dead spot on the road in the middle of nowhere. Planning out activities ahead of time can allow for more efficient packing and an overall smoother trip and experience for everyone. Doing the work ahead of time pays off and allows you to relax.

3.) HYDRATION!!

Staying hydrated while traveling is crucial, even if your destination isn’t 70° and sunny. Packing water bottles and drinking water regularly throughout the day is just as important on the slopes as it is when hiking the Grand Canyon. Nothing is worse than getting sick during what is supposed to be a fun getaway.

4.) Sunscreen

Not to sound like a broken record (or your mother), but using sunscreen is SO important. You can still catch a tan while protecting your skin and completely avoid the pain and peeling that comes with burning. Like hydrating, sunscreen is important to wear no matter what your destination is. Keep it on hand and make sure to reapply it every hour or so. Your future self will thank you—we promise!

5.) Fueling your Body

We know this week is so much fun, but don’t forget to eat! Pack snacks for those long beach days, car rides, and hikes. You might not always know what food will be available in a town you aren’t familiar with. It’s always better to be over-prepared than under.

6.) Don’t Forget a Sweatshirt

I feel like every time I reach for a sweatshirt while on vacation, I don’t have one and have to spend money on a new one just for the week. You never know when you might need it! It’s still only March, and even though days can be warm, nights can get chilly almost anywhere.

7.) HAVE FUN!

Don’t forget to enjoy yourself! School and activities can get super busy really fast. Take the week off to spend time with friends, read a book, and enjoy the space around you! Soaking it all up while staying safe and being prepared is the best way to approach spring break.
